PWTS Firmware 669

Here is a new version of the firmware for PWTS.

Changes:

 • More driftmode settings (5)
 • For better cooling, the fans are turned on from the beginning at low speed and move faster when the temperature goes up.

As I said before, please upgrade only if you have problems. We do not give any warranty for update issues. So far we had not a single wheel which was screwed up after an update but if it happens, the wheel needs to be sent to us so we can repair it.

Hint: In case the update does not work, try this:

 • Close down ALL other programs, drivers, etc.
 • Choose a different USB port
 • de-install the USB driver of the wheel in bootloader mode and install the driver again.

Thanks for the update fanatec
All functions work perfectly (it is the first time I did the firmware update, so thanks for the additional stuff)

Hi, I've tried updating to

Hi,

I've tried updating to the latest firmware, but every time it installs Step 1 fine, then it states 'device removed' and even if I try to install the driver it won't find it and just states 'device removed'. What am I doing wrong.

Here's exactly what it states (verbatim): -
Device attached
Loading hex file complete_ Device can be programmed.
Programming started_ _ _
Device Successfully Reset
Device removed
Device attached
Simple HID write start_ _ _
Loading hex file complete_ Device can be programmed.
PWTS connect failed. Please install the usb driver!
Device removed

In this case I recommend to

In this case I recommend to install the USB driver for the bootloader manually through the device manager and also change the USB port

I had the exact same issue

I had the exact same issue on my Win7 64b, Vista 64b systems. Didn't work until I tried it on my XP 32bit system. On the Xp system I got the same messages, but I was able to put it in another usb port after the "PWTS connect failed----" It instantly asked me for the location of the driver. Did not do that on the win7 or vista machines. Hope this all makes sense to you. Good luck.

I had to do two things to

I had to do two things to successfully flash my wheel in Windows 7, 64-bit.

1. Run the bootloaders in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

2. Manually install the USB driver via the Device Manager.

Will this fix the issues

Will this fix the issues with FF/wheel shaking in GT5 Prologue, too?
(Sorry in case that this has been asked already somewhere else.)

This is rather an issue of

This is rather an issue of the game and not the wheel. The GT5 demo worked fine.

Yes, I know but as you

Yes, I know but as you mentioned earlier in another thread that you will look into an option that provides a larger deadzone (maybe similar to the different CSP firmwares), I thought maybe this firmware has it.
But as the GT5 demo worked great I guess this option is seen as obsolete, right?

Nevermind I got it to

Nevermind I got it to work.
I found the wheel in devicemanager and could install the usb driver then. But the wheel was shaking like crasy and the display whent bananas. But it works now.

Bye for now.
Nice update, cooler in the wheel is not running so mutch now and it is not making so mutch noice now, and center of the wheel is so smooth now nice. had som problems with usb driver, use Win7 32bit,but i got it updatet at last.
-What did you do?

I to run Win 7 32bit. But i can not get it to update. It says:

"PWTS connect faild. Please install the usb driver."

I´v tryed that but it says that I allready have the latest driver.
Anyone have a solution? I would be very glad.

What about GT3 RS firmware ?

What about GT3 RS firmware ?

Thomas has already answered

Thomas has already answered this, GT3RS firmware can't be upgraded :(

I had a problem of the

I had a problem of the center of the wheel wandering around.

Updated to this firmware(old one was 613) and the problems has been fixed with this firmware.

Could you release a firmware

Could you release a firmware with fan setting as it was on 660 but with the recent drift mode update?

My fans did not hardly even turn on in normal driving with 660 firmware.

Also for next wheel, put bigger fan for lower noise or use ones with SSO bearings like this one: http://noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=26&lng=en

Do any FW upgrades address

Do any FW upgrades address the G25 pedal calibration issue? It's only a minor niggle, but the first time you press the gas brake or clutch it will instantly go to 100% for the first couple presses. It can be avoided by pressing the pedals a couple times each BEFORE you play a game as it only happens right after you first turn on the wheel. My Clubsport pedals are on their way here now so this won't even be an issue ( for me) soon anyways, but I was just curious?

this used to happen even

this used to happen even when i used to have the full g25 setup, wheel and pedals.

This is not an issue. The

This is not an issue. The auto calibration requires that you fully press the pedal before you drive.

If you only press 50% of the pedal travel, the wheel will assume that this is 100% until you press further.

There is some problem with

There is some problem with the support? My standar pedals have a failure in the break pedal which does not work to 100 % as indicates Forza's telemetry. I have sent several mails to e-support and to Armin and have not had response of anybody. I go already 10 days without being able to enjoy my Porsche 911 Turbo S and I am frustrated. Can someone help me? Does someone know that it happens with the support and because they do not answer? Thank you and sorry for my English.

Noisy Fan? Does anyone else

Noisy Fan?

Does anyone else get a really noisy fan with this firmware? I realize the fan is supposed to be on low but mine is loud enough to be distracting, so if that's low I won't be using a firmware the forces it to be on all the time. I ended up going back to 660 as I don't think I really needed this update but I thought if the cooling were more efficient it would be worth the upgrade.

Can it be that you mean with

Can it be that you mean with noisy a sound which is not normal for a fan ? Is this sound something like a rattle ?

I have had this some times but after switching off the wheel this noise disappeared.

The sound of the fan should be not louder than it was before. I have never had the fan on full power since I'm using 669. The fan was running slowly all the time ...

It's just the noise from the fan spinning at higher rpm's. Similar to what you'd hear from a videocard or cpu when the fan kicks up to keep things cooler.

Holding my hand over the vent I can feel the air being pushed out, which isn't something I've felt before.

I am thinkin' the same :) I haven't had the cooling problem with 660 and for me the fan is also a but too noisy with this update :)

i have the same, but wasnt

i have the same, but wasnt surprised...

prior to update, when the fan came on it was very noisy... basically its not a 'silent' fan, and at high rpm it was very irritating (even wearing headphones and racing). - btw, dont turn the wheel on/off, it needs the fan to cool - so your risking overheating if you do.

with the update, yes the fan is on, but as its at lower rpm, its about the same as the xbox - but I can live with it as i use headphones, so cant hear it when racing.

with fans, there are some variations often, so im guessing for some users its going to be nosier than for others.

Thomas, how is the fan connected in the wheel? would it be feasible for us to change it with a higher quality 'silent' fan? (ive done this before with PCs with great success)

The fans are running on 5V

The fans are running on 5V but the current is very limited. With an external powersupply it would be no problem to install a bigger or more silent fan BUT you also need to find the space for it.

thanks for the info... "you

thanks for the info...
"you also need to find the space for it." :o) ... im sure its quite full inside :)
perhaps, if it gets too much i'll open it up to get the specs, but it not a big problem for me.

btw. patch worth flawless, on the mac using vmware fusion running windows vista in a vm.

thanks for doing these upgrades thomas, its really appreciated - and its nice to see continued support.

I have an issue after

I have an issue after installing FW669. The FW works but i can't get the wheel to go into PC mode. When i press and hold the back button, the XBOX 360 lights show up (with the exception of the Xbox guide button) and the PC doesn't recognize the wheel. For getting the wheel into Xbox and PS3 mode, there are no issues.

Any ideas?
