Introducing the Formula rim for CSR Elite

A lot of CSR Elite owners want to make use of the function to change the wheel rim on their wheel.

Therefore we developed the formula rim for the CSR Elite wheel.

vettel formula rim csr elite

This wheel rim is only available separately and as an add-on for the Forza Motorsport CSR Elite wheel.

It features the same amount of buttons as the original wheel rim plus an additional 4-way joystick. Both joysticks have the same function on Xbox and PS3  but on PC it can be mapped with different functions.

The grips are made with artificial leather which is easy to clean and feel great.

Of course you will get the same robust metal construction and metal shifter paddles just like on the Formula rim for ClubSport Wheel. There is no quick release and the system is not designed to make rim changes very often. You need to unfasten two screws and unplug two cables so it is simple but it will take longer than the QR of the CSW. You also need to restart the wheel which means on PC you need to restart the game.

It is required to update the firmware of the base to make this rim work but this is not complicated if you just have a PC.

The rim will be available in Q3 and sells for 179,95€ (inclusive VAT) in EU and 179,95 USD (excl. sales tax) in the USA.

It is the only additional wheel rim planned for the CSR Elite at this point. We will now fully concentrate to make additional wheel rims for the ClubSport wheel.

This rim is vapourware just like the CSS, no wonder Thomas never gives updates on either.

End Q3 - No Formula

End Q3 - No Formula Rim

Thomas, It's the end of Q3 now, and no news at all on the formula rim for the CSR Elite. With F1 2012 now available, this is sorely needed. The rim is based on the existing formula rim so I can't see what the problem can be.

PLEASE can you give us a honest likely availablility date and also LET US PLACE PRE-ORDERS NOW!

Thomas: you made this

Thomas: you made this announcement on the 4th of July. It's now almost the end of Q3, so can you please info us about the status of the formula rim for the CSR-E? Or is there a delay because this rim has the same paddle issues as the F1 rim for the CSW?

Same question here. Are

Same question here. Are there any news ? Is there any chance that the announced release date is accurate ?

Note that Thomas mentionned a Q3 availability: "The rim will be available in Q3" but was cautious enough to do not mention which year's Q3...

Hello, any news about the release date/availability of the F1 Rim for the CSR Elite wheel? Thanks in advance! G74

Thomas, you stated: "It is required to update the firmware of the base to make this rim (formula rim for the CSR-E) work but this is not complicated if you just have a PC" This question has been brought foreward some time ago but I haven't seen an answer.

So what does this mean: We have to update to FW version 750b (or a lower one) otherswise the rim won't work. Is this only for PC or also for XBOX/PS3, or does the rim uses a different set of firmware? And if you change back to the Forza rim will you then have to re-install the old FW?

Also: can you please give us any ETA on the rim? Thanks!

I'd just like to say Thank

I'd just like to say Thank You for coming through with the Formula rim for my wonderful CSR Elite.

But please, please reconsider the decision not to make a larger, normal (like a real car) wheel of some sort. The current CSRE rim is OK, but its small size is very unrealistic and detracts from my ability to control the car - especially when large angular inputs are needed (as with a Rally car or while drifting).

Failing this, I'm hoping that Derek Speare will come up with a solution that will allow us to retain all our buttons (like what they have for the G27) and replace the tiny rim with a real, normal-sized rim for a real car.

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for the new rim for the CSR elite, but could you please reconsider adding just 1 GT style rim ?

This wheel deserve better than a playskool rim and a F1 rim, considering the quality, a GT rim is a must have

I'm hoping if a good showing

I'm hoping if a good showing support the formula rim that Thomas will be forced into producing the CSW GT rim for the CSRE as well. Afterall who doesn't want to make money? Especially when the R&D has already been done and all you have to do is manufacture it.

Pre-Order capability

Pre-Order capability PLEASE

Thomas, I too am disappointed that you've basically 'dumped' your loyal existing customers on both the CSR Elite rims and CSP V2 non-upgrade kits, but for me at least, the Formula rim will do everything I need for ALL game types as I don't see any possible needs for more than 270 degree rotation.

Can you at least make the button layout configurable as they aren't labled and different games use the buttons in different ways (F1, Forza, NFS Hot Pursuit etc.).

As some comments seem to suggest limited production, can you allow us to pre-order to ensure we can at least get the only upgrade you're likely to make? You'd also get a good idea of demand.

I, for one, would order now and wait for delivery if you made it possible!

Colin

Formula rim looks great! I

Formula rim looks great! I expect a proper GT rim too though. A plastic GT rim with peeling off rubber coating just isn't a viable long term solution for a $540 wheel. PLEASE THOMAS!!! MAKE $ SELL US A GT RIM ALSO!!! I'd buy both :)

a couple questions for Thomas

1. What is the button layout for 360?
2. Does the D-stick have the rotation function of the CSW formula rim?

Oh yeah one last thing...Please tell us the CSS will be available in August? I'm dying to get my hands on a proper shifter!

I was thinking about selling

I was thinking about selling my CSR and buy the CSR-E, expecting also a GT wheel to come out but I'm now quite disapointed.
I'm not in F1 at all and I want to use my wheel for many different games.
When I ordered my CSR, I was hesitating with the 911-GT2 because the wheel looked much better to me, but because the CSR was newer, I thought it would be a better choice. My heart wanted the GT2 but my head ordered the CSR.
The ideal combination, to me, would be a realistic wheel(full circle) like the GT2, with the Elite base.

I'll gladly trade you my GT2

I'll gladly trade you my GT2 for your CSR. My GT2 wheel is brand new due to a factory defect. I got it replaced last October and then was lucky enough to be a beta tester for the Elite in December. So the wheel only has 2 months of use on it. The leather still smells new. I'll only do the trade if you live in the USA.

Thanks for your offer but

Thanks for your offer but I'm located in Germany and I didn't say I would like to trade my CSR back to a GT2. The point was that the GT2 steering wheel looks better to me.

Thank you very much Thomas.

Thank you very much Thomas. Can't wait to order one!

BTW: Is that Bastian Schweinsteiger and the nose of Christian Horner behind the back of the camera-man?

I think that picture was

I think that picture was taken at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood. It was at the same time like Euro 2012. Horners nose o.k., but very unlikely we have Schweini on that picture.

Didi Lauda, sure i can stand a joke... like the dutch were a joke on the Euro :-)

However, with your nickname Lauda, were have the austrians been? Ok, with a swiss coach you cannot expect too much.

As far as i can remember it

As far as i can remember it was Germany (of course not only) which kicked the Austrians out of the Qualifying :-)
And my nick may be a little misleading, i´m from Germany/Bavaria!
Not too much of a difference, i know ;-)

Thomas, I was (like many)

Thomas, I was (like many) really hoping for a proper GT rim for the CSR-Elite. I am disappointed with the statement that no further rims are being worked on.

The Formula rim looks great (and I will buy it to replace the stock rim on mine until a better option is available), but you cant drift with that or drive any road sports/supercar or classic car and feel that its as realistic as it can/should be... And to be honest the stock rim on the CSR is not what it should be quality & price level wise (which is a shame on that excellent base).

Like me, many of the high-end sim racers/drivers want to have cross platform compatibility for PC, PS3 and X-Box racing to ensure not to miss out on any good sim's. I think that trend will grow as sim's on the consoles get better, soon with the next gen consoles arriving graphics will surpass anything we have seen on the PC's.

Isn't it possible to re-use the electronics etc from the CSR-E Formula rim and incorporate it to the CSW BMW GT2 rim? Most of the work must already be done?

I understand your business situation and sales forecasts as well as your small/focused team (with so many new developments in the pipe, that I am also eagerly waiting for), but I really hope there is a way to re-use what has been done already to release a GT rim for the Elite, otherwise I feel it is left significantly incomplete!

Regards
/Roger

Well let me be one of the

Well let me be one of the few to say "Thank You" for taking the time for giving us another rim style period. I'm not a huge F1 fan but the wheel looks very fun and the lighter look to it might make it turn in faster. I also really like the fake leather grips.
Since so many people are up in arms about the lack of a GT rim or just plain hate the F1 Idea feel free to give me or sell me the signed F1 rim. I would love to have that.
Again thanks for investing the time into a rim for the Elite. I hope in due time that the sales of the F1 rim will convince you to go forward with the production go the GT rim. I also hope there is a good demand for the GT rim for the CSW so it is even a possibility to produce it for the Elite wheel.
